“It is easy to believe that our ultimate path is way ahead of us, not reflected in our challenges with money and unresolved emotional issues, not reflected in our relationship issues and self-doubts, but that’s a big mistake. We need a foundation- egoically, emotionally and structurally- before we can fly. And we build that foundation in the heart of our challenges. THOSE WHO CAN’T EMBRACE THEIR SHADOW CAN’T EMBRACE THEIR LIGHT- they may feel en’light’ened, but the light is infused with denial. The idea that our purpose is some giant thing and that everything else is a deviation from it is a misnomer perpetuated by the ungrounded positivity movement. It’s all sacred purpose- structure building, emotional healing, life’s challenging lessons- so long as we have the intention to grow.”

Its unfortunate, but the positivity movement has become about money, greed. Telling people growth is messy, really painful, long and difficult is a poor business model. On the other hand, telling people all they have to do to be happy and have all their dreams fulfilled is to think positive is a great business model. Tapping into our modern cultural preference for instant gratification, magic answers and silver bullets, is how the positivity movement became a multi-billion dollar industry. Bright-sided, How Positive Thinking is Undermining America by Barbara Ehrenreich is a great read about this. Highly recommend it and her blog. Barbara’s Blog: Are Women Getting Sadder?.
Just sayin’ 🙂 ❤
